HP 903XL/953XL Firmware update Oct 9, 2023

HP released a firmware update on September 26, 2023 that impacts the HP inkjet cartridge range of 903XL/953XL.

How the firmware update is delivered:

This is a push update and can be installed with minimal user intervention
Installed cartridges will continue to operate but will not show ink levels
All current chips and cartridges are impacted
Galway Cartridge recommends all customers turn automatic updates off.

HP has released a new firmware that affects the CF530 and CF540 series of cartridges used in LaserJet M254, M281, M280 and M180, M181 and M154 printers. This firmware causes the printer to not recognizethe replacement chip inside of aftermarket cartridges and to report an error message. We have a solution forthcoming and more information will be released in the coming week. The firmware version code is “20201021” and the message will come across as: “Supply Problem” and printing cannot be continued.

Following the Australian store Ink Hub’s warnings and advice about HP firmware earlier this month, we has begun issuing warnings to customers also. Over the “last few days” we have been receiving reports from over two thousand consumers that its newly installed private label cartridges have been malfunctioning in “25 different models of HP OfficeJet printers.”
